Dominic Koetting - Bass
I started playing bass at the age of 14 after watching a friend play one. I had always listened to music with an eager ear, but never gave much credence to the bass. I played for about 3 years learning and listening to examples such as Les Claypol, Cliff Burton, Geezer Butler, John Paul Jones, Mike Gordon, Lemmy, Geddy Lee and Jimmy Tebeau. After running into a wall of learning, I met Harland through a friend who was already taking lessons from him. I began paying my own way and taking lessons from Harland. I got turned on to greats such as Jack Bruce, Phil Lesh etc and the rest is history. There I learned to appreciate the small things in music. Understanding that quality and not quantity and that the subtle things put into music are key to what makes great music and a great musician. I started sitting in with Cosmic Mojo for a song or 2 when I was still a teen. From there, I began playing Grateful Dead covers with friends and eventually joining, what is now, Cosmic Mojo. Good music done right to the ear is the equivalent of an optical illusion to the eye and can make even the most innocent life form respond to it positively. That is what we try to accomplish with the Mojo.
